Sparring Palms

One of the reasons I love flamenco so much is because of the myriad of impacts using different parts and angles of parts of the body. The quality of contact is precise, and viscerally satisfying.

Nola and I have begun integrating measured slapping & smacking into a sparring dynamic.

While I’m not interesting in making contact to injure or for any kind of point value, the sound emitted when a hand hits just right on the skin of the self or other is grounding, affirming & exciting. A quickening exchange of improvised sparring also builds a unique energy & rhythmic dance, creating a release from the mostly slow, syrupy makeup of the Make the Brutal Tender landscape.

Moving forward onto other surfaces, nooks and crannies, and into higher thresholds of speed!
